Bangkok 30th January 2017- Thammasat University’s Center for ASEAN Studies will organize “TU ASEAN Expo 2017” for the first time in Thailand during March 23-26, 2017 at Thammasat University, Tha prachan campus to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN and a transition towards ASEAN 4.0.
The event is also held to commemorate His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s remarkable contribution to Thailand and Southeast Asian nations. The late King Rama IX paid state visits to strengthen relations with ASEAN countries even before establishment and provided a large number of his royal projects to better the livelihood of Thais and ASEAN citizens.
Activities organized in tribute to the late King Bhumibol include “King of Kings”, “The Father of Research and Development of Thai Rice”, and “Places our Father went” exhibitions.
Thailand’s foremost sand artist Sompong Leerasiri will also draw the late monarch’s portrait and narrate his royal duties in promoting relations with ASEAN member states during his “Sand Art for King” showcase.
At the event, Center for ASEAN Studies will organize a seminar entitled: “TU-ASEAN Forum” and “TU-ASEAN International Conference 2017”. The panelists invited to the seminar are well-known academics in the region and will speak on the topic “ASEAN at 50th” and “ASEAN 4.0”, which are vital to the future of Thailand and other ASEAN member countries.
Sand, which is one of Thailand’s most important natural resources, will be used to sculpture the symbols of ten ASEAN countries.
Exhibitions to promote ASEAN food, ASEAN products and ASEAN tourism are also supported by embassies of all ASEAN nations in Bangkok.
The “TU ASEAN Expo 2017” event is organized under the theme of comprehensiveness, colorful cultural diversity and adaptation of King Bhumibol’s principle of self-sufficiency to bring about prosperity, happiness and unity in the ASEAN community.
